Fonts For Cure

Hey guys! So, if you haven’t noticed, I’ve been working on my blog lately, changing things around and all {yeah, like, you do that ALL the time, Sarah! What gives?}.

The latest addition is my font.. my handwriting… You got it… it’s MY personal handwriting! Cool, huh? Well, see, I was searching online for a way to do it, and lo and behold, there’s a site called “YourFonts” that will let you download a sheet of paper with blocks for you to write the assigned letter, number, or symbol into, then all you have to do is scan it in (or, if you have a drawing tablet, you can just draw it on there through something like Photoshop or something), then upload it, it “reads” and assigns your handwriting to the appropriate letter, and voila, there you have your very own font! If you choose to buy, it’s $10.

If you own your own self-hosted wordpress site, you can download a plugin called “font uploader”, and from there, you can assign different fonts to show up where you want them. I have a separate font for my headers and stuff, and my handwriting is the text you are reading here. I’m not sure if you can upload them through Blogger or the regular WordPress.com though.

It is fun to do and you can download them and save them into your computer to use on word documents and stuff. Pretty awesome, I think. But you know what’s even more awesome? If you follow the link I posted above and purchase either your own or another one that’s already made, I get 40% of the sale. When I reach $25 in commision, they will send the money to my Paypal account, which I will then send off to the Diabetes Research Institute. How awesome is that? You get a totally unique, awesome font of your very own while helping us find a cure! Woot!

{yeah, you can even do your very own name as a character! ;-) }

Beauty With A Cause

Good morning, everyone! In the spirit of full disclosure, I have some exciting news to share.

mk pinkThis weekend, I became a Mary Kay Independent Beauty Consultant (try saying that 3 times fast!!!). My sister-in-law is already one, and I have signed under her to sell. As with most home businesses, I do make a profit with this, and what I have chosen to do is that with every purchase that is made, 10% will go to the Diabetes Research Institute.

And this is where the disclosure comes in. Mary Kay is not associated with the DRI in any way (or at least not that I am aware of). This is something I have chosen to do on my own. Any products I may offer through Twitter, Facebook, or even on here are not offered to you with the 10% donation promise by Mary Kay, but by myself. Mary Kay is a business for women, but when you sign with them to be a MKIBC, you own your own Mary Kay business and can do with it pretty well what you want, with a few exceptions.

So, I hope that you guys don’t mind, but I will be advertising some of their products and if you would like to try them, just let me know and as soon as I get some samples in, I can either mail you some or you can place an order for a product through the link provided in the posts that I share. I will also put a button on the side of my blog later this week with the same logo “Beauty With A Cause” that will take you directly to my Mary Kay store online (not the Mary Kay website itself… they have a site set up for me so I can process my orders directly).

My first post already went up on Twitter and my Facebook account last night about an AMAZING mascara they have now, LashLove. Normally, I don’t get this excited about mascara, but I promise you, between all of the products I’ve used before (all the drugstore ones, Este Lauder, Clinique and even some of Mary Kay’s other ones), this one tops them all. If you were to give me a choice on a desert island of what I MK product I needed if an incredibly handsome man were coming to rescue me, I would say lipgloss and this mascara. IT.IS.AWESOME!!! You can buy it alone, or in a bundle with eye makeup remover and an eyelash curler (which I recommend just for the eye makeup remover. Did you know we can get eye mites? Yeah! Gross! This remover actually kills them to help reduce allergies and eye irritations). And as I said before, any order that is placed through me, I will send 10% to the DRI.

I am hoping this will be a way that I can make a difference not only in my life, but in the lives of the whole DOC by helping us get just a little closer to a cure!!!

Thanks!!!

-Sarah

Cupcakes!

What’s not to love about a cupcake? They’re a one-serving-sized (some bigger than one serving, but who’s counting???) mouth-full of sweetness.

Those of us who are a part of the DOC (diabetes on-line community) use cupcakes almost as a food-mascot. Why? Because, for one thing, it something that’s sweet, something that is a general misconception we aren’t supposed to have, but that’s not true. Another reason is because life with diabetes is a crazy, mixed up mess. It’s a hard fight each and every day. And, sometimes, we need a little break.. a little “sweetness”. We NEED a cupcake.

That’s why I was so excited when my friend, Jaimie, posted that she is selling these cute little cupcake necklaces:

She had bought one for herself and shared it on Twitter not too long ago, and I have to admit, I was in love. I wanted one, but didn’t know how to get it. Well, today, she posted on Facebook that she will be selling the necklaces for $25 each, with $5 of each purchase given to the Diabetes Research Institute. How sweet is that?!? (Yes, I totally intended that pun!)

So, if you would like to help Jaimie in her efforts and receive a super cute necklace while helping raise money for research for a cure, please either message Jaimie on Facebook through the link provided or use my “contact me” link and I’ll forward your request to her via email and she will send you an invoice through your email address. She is taking orders until May 31st.
